ORIGIN & CONSUMPTION
All apples originate from the domestic apple species (Malus domestica) and there are approximately 20,000 varieties grown around the world.
The apple is often associated with the forbidden fruit of the Book of Genesis. In the West, it is a symbol of original sin.
The most consumed fruit in France, and the third-most consumed fruit in the world, apples are grown all over Europe and on other continents, including in Latin America, South Africa and China. One reason for apples’ popularity is that they are available all year round.
TOTAL PRODUCE INDIGO specializes in importing apples outside the European season from South Africa, Chile and Argentina.
DESCRIPTION & APPEARANCE
In terms of physical characteristics, the apple has an almost spherical, stocky shape, is of course edible, and usually has seeds. It weighs an average of 150 grams.
Given that there are thousands of varieties of apple, it should come as no surprise that this fruit exists in a wide range of colours. Apples can be red, yellow, green or streaked with several colours. Their flesh can be crisp or floury, with a sweet or tart taste.
