OUR FRUITS | MELON

ORIGIN & PRODUCTION

The melon, also known by the Latin name "Cucumis Melo", belongs to the cucurbitaceae family and first grew in intertropical Africa.

The original wild fruit has been replaced today by numerous varieties, of which the most well-known are:

-    Cantaloupe (or Charentais) melon
-    Muskmelon
-    Galia melon
-    Canary melon

DESCRIPTION & APPEARANCE

Melons are climacteric fruit. They are flavourful, sweet and fragrant. Their shape can be oval or round, and they are often quite large.

Depending on the variety, the skin of melons can be rough, smooth, ribbed, furrowed or wrinkled. Their colours vary from dark shades of green to light yellow and even white.

The colour of the flesh is also different for each variety, ranging from yellow to orange, or white to light green; the flesh is often very juicy and fragrant when melons are thoroughly ripe.

Melons have a central cavity which is fibrous and contains numerous tightly packed ellipsoid seeds.
